I thought I'd start the new CD Recommendations thread!!
I have lots of things to recommend, but at the moment I have to say the CD that's really got me hooked is "Down in Albion" by Babyshambles, it's not exactly new but I still love to give it a listen now and then!

Oh yes, I love Fleet Foxes! I think the self-titled one is probably my album of the year so far. And they're excellent live too.

I'm listening to Twentythree and Hello... by Tristan Prettyman at the moment. Saw her a couple of weeks back, phenomenal musician and wonderful person as well. She has been awesome to me. I wrote her an email about how Breathe helped me through some rough times and she sent me two emails and played that song to open her set. Highly recommend her music.

I'm actually really hoping they'll come to Holland to play a gig, but so far no success :(
Another band I'd like to recommend is Milburn. They only released to albums before splitting up in May this year.

Another recommendation I HAVE to make is Gaslight Anthem. Take Bruce Springsteen and put him with an almost punk band and that is what you'd get. One thing of note is that one of there songs has lyrics from Round Here by Counting Crowes. (I know some of you like them). Def. worth checking out.

I know, I know I keep recommending bands, but I wouldn't feel right not recommending Brand New (especially Deja Entendu and The Devil and God Are Raging Inside of Me).

I'm really liking Dr. Dog right now. Despite their stupid name, their music is actually good and catchy. And not hiphopish at all.

Cheers. I love the stuff he does/did with crazyhorse - Zuma, Everybody knows.... Ryan and the cardinals kinda remind me of Neil Young with Crazy Horse, although ryan and the cards definately have their own cardinal sound, its just in the dynamic i see the similarities.

My recommendation: Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight. It's one of the better albums of 2008 for me.

I've been fairly obsessed with Shearwater lately, they're just incredible. Their latest album Rook is fantastic and their previous one Palo Santo is possibly even better.

Love Manchester Orchestra....They opened for Kevin Devine and Brand New...Best concert I've ever been to. Everybody from every band was on stage during each of the sets. They had five sets of drums, and about fourteen guitars going at once for the finale!!!

I've been listening a lot to a Norwegian artist named moddi lately. Sometimes he sounds a bit like Damien Rice, sometimes like Sigur Ros. http://www.myspace.com/moddimusikk (http://www.myspace.com/moddimusikk)

Do yourselves a favor and check out City and Colour. Probably some of the best music I've heard in a long while. Definitely along the lines of Ryan Adams solo stuff, especially like Heartbreaker and maybe even Suicide Handbook. Beautifully written songs that are acoustic.
